Refined Regulatory Framework for Pesticide Residues in Food in Hong Kong
To address growing concern about safe use of pesticide in food, the Government conducted a public consultation exercise on a proposal for regulatory framework for pesticide residues in food in November 2007. We have since then collected views from a wide range of stakeholders, experts, and the public, and conducted a Regional Symposium on Regulation of Pesticide Residues in Food, jointly organized with the European Commission in 2009. The Expert Committee on Food Safety has also been consulted. The 2007 proposed regulatory framework has been refined in the light of the feedback received. Based on the refined framework, the stakeholders have been further consulted through technical meetings and various consultation sessions since January 2011.
The Administration has launched a two-month public consultation exercise from 13 July 2011 to 19 September 2011 and received views during the consultation period. The Pesticide Residues in Food Regulation will be tabled in the Legislative Council on 9 May 2012.
