Reason For Issuing Alert

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS), through its routine Food Incident Surveillance System, learned that the Japanese authorities had issued a notice that a manufacturer, Maruha Nichiro Corporation is recalling several kinds of canned fish products as they may contain foreign matters.

Upon learning of the incident, the CFS immediately liaised with local major retailers and importers and preliminary investigation found that City Super Limited had imported one of the affected products. According to the information provided by the importer, the import quantity of the affected batches of the product was 1980 cans which were for sale at its supermarket chain. The affected products have all been sold out and the importer has initiated a recall.

Further investigation by the CFS found that another retailer "759 Store" had imported and sold the affected product. According to the information provided by "759 Store", the affected product was only for sale at its retail outlets, and had all been sold out. The retailer has proactively initiated a recall earlier on.

Action Taken by the Centre for Food Safety

The CFS has contacted with the Japanese authorities and will alert the trade to the incident.

The CFS will continue to closely monitor the case and take appropriate follow-up action.
