Reason For Issuing Alert

The CFS, through its routine Food Incident Surveillance System, learned that the manufacturer of Mars chocolate had initiated a recall of specific batches of products manufactured in its plant in the Netherlands as the products concerned might contain pieces of plastic.

Action Taken by the Centre for Food Safety

The CFS launched investigation immediately, including contacting major local suppliers and retailers, and so far found one of the affected batches of the Snickers product had been imported into Hong Kong and sold by the abovementioned retailer.

The CFS had contacted the importer concerned and learned that the affected product, 80 boxes in total, were supplied to the abovementioned retailer only and there was no remaining stock. According to the information provided by the retailer concerned, it has stopped sale and removed from shelves the affected batch of the product. A recall has also been initiated.

The CFS will alert the trade to the incident and will continue to closely monitor the case and take appropriate follow-up action. Investigation is ongoing.
