Reason For Issuing Alert

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS), through its routine Food Incident Surveillance System, learned that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a notice that the manufacturer of Smirnoff Ice brand alcoholic beverages, Diageo Canada, is voluntarily recalling all affected bottled alcoholic beverages in the country as the products may contain small glass particles.

Action Taken by the Centre for Food Safety

After learning of the incident, the CFS immediately liaised with local major retailers and importers but no affected products under the recall have been found so far.

The CFS will liaise with the Canadian authorities and will alert the trade to the incident.

The CFS will continue to closely monitor the case and take appropriate follow-up action. Investigation is ongoing.

The trade should stop selling the products concerned.

Advice to Consumers

Members of the public are urged not to consume the affected products.
