Not to consume a Taiwanese oat product suspected to be contaminated

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) received notification from the Taiwanese authority that the concerned product had been distributed to Hong Kong.

Manufacturer: Herb Garden Biotechnology Co, Ltd

Importer: O'Farm Limited

Amount of export:372 cans

Expiry date (DD/MM/YY) of affected batch: 28/08/2012 (300 cans)
20/12/2012 (72 cans)

The importer O' Farm Limited indicated to the CFS that it had initiated product recall since late last month.

Reason For Issuing Alert

The concerned products might have been contaminated with di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP). DEHP is a plasticiser and has been found to cause damages to liver, kidney, reproduction and development when given to animals in large doses.

Action Taken by the Centre for Food Safety

The CFS has notified the trade and at once instructed the importer to stop sale of the affected products.

The CFS will continue its investigations and follow-up work, closely monitor the recall arrangements and collect samples of related products for testing. It will also conduct checks at retail outlets to see if those products are available for sale
