Post-Mortem Inspection Unit
The Post-Mortem Inspection Unit (the unit) under the Slaughterhouse (Veterinary) Section is responsible for carrying out animal disease surveillance in the slaughterhouses and providing support to Health Inspectors in conducting post-mortem inspections of food animals.
Animal Disease Surveillance in Slaughterhouses
The unit performs necropsies and collects samples from carcasses and offal condemned from slaughter lines for animal disease surveillance.
Support to Health Inspectors of Meat Inspection Unit
The unit also provides on-site veterinary support to Health Inspectors of the Meat Inspection Unit on post-mortem inspections and organises regular training sessions to Health Inspectors so as to deliver better meat inspection services, thereby improving food safety and protecting public health.
