Nutrition labelling award schemes prize presentation ceremony (with photos)

Winning teams of the "Live it, Use it" Nutrition Labelling Promotion Award Scheme and "Live it, Use it" Nutrition Labelling Fun Shopping Award Scheme received awards in recognition of their outstanding performance in promoting the use of nutrition labelling today (July 8) at a prize presentation ceremony staged by the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) at Hong Kong Central Library.

Officiating at the ceremony, the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Clement Leung, encouraged the use of nutrition labels in daily life to choose prepackaged foods that meet individual needs. Mr Leung said that by comparing the nutrient content of prepackaged foods, members of the public could make healthier food choices more easily.

Mr Leung noted that this year's nutrition labelling (NL) promotional activities were well received by schools and community organisations. He added that with concerted efforts, the NL promotion would be even more fruitful.

This was the third consecutive academic year that the CFS and the Education Bureau had jointly organised the "Live it, Use it" Nutrition Labelling Promotion Award Scheme. The scheme, supported by the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, aims at encouraging students to organise NL promotional activities in school and community settings. Through these activities, students and their selected target groups, such as their peers, teachers, parents or other members of the community, can gain a better understanding of nutrition labelling and its use.

A total of 35 teams from 23 schools participated in planning and implementing NL promotional activities.

The CFS, with the support of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, organised the "Live it, Use it" Nutrition Labelling Fun Shopping Award Scheme for the second year.

A total of 30 community organisations participated in the scheme and organised a variety of promotional and educational activities for their service users. Over 15,000 individuals engaged in related activities held by community organisations and learned about the use of nutrition labelling.
