Warning on crisps with possible presence of rubber pieces

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (December 5) advised people not to eat certain batches of crisps from Walkers Snack Foods Ltd as they might contain yellow rubber pieces.

The affected products are "Walkers Crisps" with a best before date of "17 January 2009" and code of "GBL ***306" (the asterisks can be any numbers). Pack formats potentially affected are as follows:

Walkers Crisps Standard 34.5g (Flavour: Cheese and Onion, Ready Salted, Salt and Vinegar)
Walkers Crisps Big Eat 50g (Flavour: Cheese and Onion)
Walkers Crisps 150g (Flavour: Ready Salted, Salt and Vinegar)
Walkers Crisps 14-pack (Flavour: Cheese and Onion, Variety)
Walkers Crisps 28-pack (Flavour: Cheese and Onion, Variety)
Walkers Crisps 24-pack (Flavour: Variety)

According to the UK authorities, the company concerned is recalling the affected products.

"Retailers should also stop selling these particular products," a CFS spokesman said.

"The CFS has contacted the UK authorities for further information. We have informed the trade of the incident and are closely monitoring the situation."
