CFS follows up on Mainland infant formula

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) has been closely monitoring the Mainland's Sanlu brand of infant formula incident and has taken precautionary measures to ensure food safety, a spokesman for the CFS said today (September 14).

"According to information from the Mainland authorities, the product concerned was not exported to Hong Kong. And inspections by CFS staff at dispensaries and supermarket outlets in the past few days found that neither the concerned product nor other Mainland brands of milk powder is available in the local market. But as a precaution, the CFS has collected for testing three samples of international brands of milk powder that are manufactured on the Mainland and are available locally. Results available today showed that all the samples were free from melamine," the spokesman said.

"In addition, the CFS has also taken from the local market samples of other milk-made products, such as fresh milk, ice-cream, ice-cream bars and yogurt, that were produced on the Mainland for tests."

"We will continue to monitor the situation closely."
