Pickled shallots suspected of containing glass fragments

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (August 30) advised people not to eat a batch of pickled shallots as they might contain glass fragments.

The affected product is "Waitrose Pickled Shallots" (454g), with a best before date of "End Nov 2009"; and a batch code "L7312" and time codes between "09:45 and 13:40" printed on the top of the lid.

"We also appeal to the trade to stop selling the particular product," a CFS spokesman said.

The spokesman said that the relevant company in the United Kingdom, Waitrose Ltd, was recalling the affected products.

"The CFS will contact the UK authorities for more information. We have alerted the trade and are closely monitoring the situation," the spokesman said.
