Scientific substantiation of health claims in the EU
Professor FLYNN obtained a doctoral degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway . He is now a Professor in Nutrition in University College Cork in Ireland where he has served on the faculty since 1981. He has published widely on human nutrition, public health and food safety and has extensive experience in providing scientific advice on human nutrition and food safety issues related to food policy and regulation. He has served as Chairman of the Scientific Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies of the European Food Safety Authority, Parma , Italy , from 2003-2012 and as a member of the Scientific Committee on Food of the European Commission from 1997-2003. He has also served as Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland since 2003.
