In response to the Japanese government's decision to discharge nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean on 24 August, 2023, the Director of the Food and Environmental Hygiene issued and gazetted the relevant Food Safety Order, prohibiting imports of aquatic products from 10 metropolis/prefectures in Japan. Early on the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) hosted five online briefing sessions for relevant trades to clarify the details of the new measures, so that the trades may get better prepared and assure smooth operation.
