Centre for Food Safety tests imported Japanese fresh produce for radiation level

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (March 12) that it has stepped up surveillance of fresh produce imported from Japan such as milk, vegetables and fruits for testing of radiation level.

The measure was taken in view of an incident involving a nuclear power plant in Japan after an earthquake.

The CFS will liaise with the Japanese authorities for more information, and monitor closely the situation and latest developments.
