Alert on 'cha cha dessert'

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) was informed by Nissin Foods Company Limited today (September 19) that the company would recall a boxed dessert, which had used a Yili milk product as raw material.

The affected product is boxed "Nissin Retort Pouch Cha Cha Dessert" and manufactured by Qingdao Kangda Foodstuffs Co., Ltd.

"We have alerted the trade and will collect samples for testing. We also appeal to traders to stop selling the product," a CFS spokesman said.

"According to Nissin Foods Company Limited, Yili Pure Milk (1L) has been used as raw material. As melamine was detected in that milk product by CFS earlier, we appeal to people not to consume the dessert.

"We are closely monitoring the situation."
