Warning on chorizo products with possible Salmonella contamination

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (June 6) advised people not to eat certain batches of D'elitte branded chorizo products suspected to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The CFS also appealed to the trade to stop selling the products. Details of the affected products are as follows:

Product: D'elitte Chorizo Picanté Extra
Pack size: 200 grammes
Batch number: 189/07
Best before: Feb 2009

Product: D'elitte Chorizo Suavé Extra
Pack size: 200 grammes
Batch number: 26/08
Best before: March 2009

According to the UK authorities, the company concerned, Creative Ingredients, is recalling the affected products.

"Salmonella is a pathogen that may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, such as abdominal pain and diarrhoea," a CFS spokesman said.

"The CFS has contacted the UK authorities for further information. We have alerted the trade and are closely monitoring the situation."
