Warning on fresh frozen salted croaker

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (April 4) advised the public not to eat a certain batch of fresh frozen salted croaker due to possible contamination with Clostridium botulinum.

The CFS also appealed to the trade to stop selling the product.

The affected product is HC Fresh, Frozen Salted Croaker, net weight 480 grams, item #HC0500402. The product's expiration date is August 2, 2009 . 

According to the Food and Drug Administration of the United States , the concerned company is recalling the affected product which might have been contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which could cause botulism, a life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to eat the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

"The CFS will contact the relevant authorities for further information. We have alerted the trade and are closely monitoring the situation," a CFS spokesman said.
