Call to stop consumption of possible contaminated risotto

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (May 7) appealed to the trade to stop selling a batch of "Archer Farms Four Cheese Risotto" (6 oz/170g) suspected to be contaminated with Salmonella. People who have purchased the same batch of product should also stop consuming it.

The affected products carried a code "Best If Used By 16JUL2008AA".

"Salmonella is a pathogen that may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, such as abdominal pain and diarrhoea," a CFS spokesman said.

He said the appeal was made as the US authorities had alerted consumers about possible contamination of the products in question with Salmonella.

"We have alerted the trade and local distributors about the incident, and are closely monitoring the situation," the spokesman said.
