Certificate Presentation Ceremony cum CLG Group Discussion Meeting

The Certificate Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on 4 December 2010 at the Cityview Hotel in Kowloon. This year, a new format was adopted to have group discussion meeting concurrently with the ceremony. Participants discussed the patterns and concerns for selecting prepackaged food, fresh food and food premises among the public, as well as their perceptions and suggestions on the work of the Centre for Food Safety (CFS).

Dr Teresa Choi, Principal Medical Officer (Risk Assessment and Communication) of the CFS first gave a brief introduction of food safety control principles. Participants then had group discussions to share their experiences on food shopping and dining out. They also talked about consumer concerns and their perceptions on the relevant information and activities available in the market.

The Ceremony began at 3:15 pm. After giving a speech to thank CLG members for their contributions, Dr Constance Chan, Controller of the CFS, presented the certificates and took photos with CLG members. Professor Kwan Hoi-shan, Chairman of the Expert Committee on Food Safety and Ms Clara Li, Head of Public Affairs Division of Consumer Council, also graced the occasion with their presence.

This activity, held in alignment with the aims and objectives of CLG, has not only enabled the CFS to better understand consumer considerations and concerns for making food choices, but also provided insights into public perceptions and expectations on food safety. We strongly believe that the new CLG members would offer valuable views on our work and assist in the continuous improvement of CFS and CLG services through their active participation and support.

A visit to the FEHD's Health Education Exhibition & Resource Centre

CLG members were invited to visit the Health Education Exhibition & Resource Centre in Kowloon Park on 17 December 2011. A guided tour of the Centre's facilities and an exhibition on the theme of "Food Safety, Environmental Hygiene and You" were arranged on that day for members. A group discussion meeting was held on the same day to identify barriers to practising the Five Keys to Food Safety in daily life and to seek members' feedbacks and suggestions on the CFS's promotional activities and audio-visual resources on food safety. A summary of the discussions has been uploaded onto the CFS website.

A Visit to Coca-Cola's Factory in Sha Tin

On 12 March 2012, CLG members visited Coca-Cola's factory in Sha Tin to get a better insight into what a business that has adopted ISO22000 were doing to ensure food safety in the soft drinks manufacturing processes. Before the visit, we took the opportunity to ask about members' perception and behaviour on safe temperatures and also their views on detecting foreign bodies in food. A summary of the discussions has been uploaded onto the CFS website.
